Here at Career Network Ministry, volunteers run the show. With the New Year having just passed, it is a good time to highlight the volunteers that have kept CNM running for the past year and beyond. One such volunteer who has worked at CNM for many years is Bob Plummer.

Bob joined CNM back in 2018 and was deeply inspired by the passion, dedication and commitment of the volunteers at Career Network Ministry. What drew him in the most was the assurance that its motivations were firmly rooted in faith and led by Christians with an unwavering commitment to reflect the love of Christ through action. His initial role at CNM involved welcoming attendees at the registration desk and setting up the main room at McLean Bible Church for guest speakers’ sessions. This groundwork gave him valuable insight into the ministry and revealed gaps in the job search topics being addressed.

To address these gaps, Bob developed and presented his own workshops related to the job search process. One of his most popular webinars is “Ignite the Power of You” which focuses on the personal discovery step of the process. Bob explained that “I firmly believe that while one’s competence may get a candidate noticed for being qualified, it’s their unique values, professional attributes, passion, cultural fit, and differentiators that ultimately contribute to an offer being extended.”

The second session he conducts on a regular basis is “Planning Your Job Search” a critical yet often overlooked aspect of the job search process. While this topic is

frequently mentioned as an important step, it is rarely accompanied by practical

guidance or actionable strategies. When describing the importance of job search

planning, Bob said that “My session addresses this gap by equipping job seekers

with a planning framework and insights needed to create a personalized and detailed Job Search Plan. I truly believe that when a plan is thoughtfully crafted and rigorously executed, it can significantly enhance one’s effectiveness and efficiency throughout their job search journey.”

Additionally, Bob has developed a session addressing the decision-making process surrounding job offers titled “The Decision Moment.” Although this session is currently on hold, aims to guide job seekers in evaluating whether to accept, decline, or negotiate an offer. It introduces a comprehensive framework of decision factors, along with practical tips and negotiation strategies to empower participants in making an informed and well-reasoned decision when an offer is received.

Driven by a passion for empowering others, Bob has dedicated part of his retirement to serving job seekers through practical guidance and encouragement. His mission is to inspire individuals to uncover their unique value and approach their job search with purpose, intention, thoughtfulness, proactivity, and, most importantly, prayerfulness.

“I am deeply grateful for those who invested in me throughout my life, and my work at CNM allows me to pay it forward by ministering to others in a meaningful way.” Ministering to others in a meaningful way is at the core to the mission of Bob and all of the volunteers at CNM. We're excited to advance this mission and create lasting change in the year ahead.
